The preliminary design solution for upgrading the industrial wastewater pretreatment system exceeded acceptable budget limits and included additional treatment and processing options beyond the necessary components necessary to meet pretreatment discharge standards.

Solution

AEEC evaluated the design criteria and scope to develop a more cost effective and efficient treatment system able to meet discharge standards. AEEC focused on identifying specific sources of wastewater and developing source specific treatment options. The solutions addressed the required pretreatment standards and allowed for future modifications as needed. The solution also included lowering capital and O&M costs.

Outcome

Costs have been reduced significantly. The initial budget has been reduced from $1.5 million to $500,000. Solutions will be implemented at four separate facilities whereas previously the solution only addressed the operations at one site with the potential for accommodating another site. The solution has included both physical, chemical, and biological approaches to pre-treat the wastewater targeted for specific industrial wastewater sources.
